Wetherspoons

Tonight we wandered up to our local Wetherspoons for a cheap meal.  We got some really tasty chilli con carne and spaghetti bolognaise for the bargain price of £4.95 for both!  Pete had their Tuesday night Steak Special - the best piece of sirloin I've tasted in a while, with a salad and chips, and a glass of wine, for £5.  Bargain!

All this bargain hunting must have something to do with the fact that I'm about to be unemployed.  Although, I did have two interviews today.  The first one, which was my first interview in five years, didn't go too well, I think because I was very nervous and the interviewers were very nervous, and I think they had already picked their guy so weren't really too interested.  The second interview went really well though, maybe because I'd warmed up by then but the panel of three guys were very friendly and chatty and responsive.  Fingers crossed!

Carluccio's

Met some girlfriends for dinner tonight at Carluccio's in St Christophers Square.  It was a gorgeous evening, so we were hoping to sit outside but it was jammed.  It's still a great place for a quick get together and a nice meal.  Had the antipasto followed by the ravioli.  Good stuff.

Baltic

Went out for dinner to Baltic tonight, which is a very funky Eastern European restaurant near Waterloo.  Took a Polish friend who wanted to order two entrees, mains and desserts because she was so excited to see some Polish dishes!  I had foie gras followed by roast saddle of veal with a bacon and sour cream sauce, which were both really tasty.  We all finished the meal with Polish coffee - coffee with plum brandy and cream, which was kinda strange and very strong.

Carluccios

The fiance has been getting loads of help fixing his motorbike from some of his mates.  So tonight we took them out for dinner to Carluccio's to say thank you.  I love Carluccio's - it's a diner-style Italian restaurant which serves simple but tasty traditional Italian food.  Tonight had brilliant Vitello Tonnato (thin pieces of veal with tuna mayonaise) and Chicken Saltimbocca, which was OK, but the fiance's Saltimbocca from Delia is actually nicer (this is the recipe but with pork which I am yet to try).

Zizzi Does It

Dinner at Zizzi in Kingston - quattro formaggio pizza, mmm.

The Alma

Dinner at The Alma, another gastro pub in Islington - A had Cottage Pie, and I had tiger prawns with garlic, chilli and aioli, and the nicest chips.

The Barnsbury

Dinner tonight at The Barnsbury, a gastro-pub in Islington.  Great beer, good house wine and really nice food.  And the chandeliers made from up turned wine glasses are a cool feature.

Pasha

Dinner at Pashak, a Turkish/North African restaurant on Upper Street in Islington.  Unfortunately we hadn't booked so we were squeezed into the tiniest table in the tiniest space.  But the food was really good.  I had iskender - bits of chicken, lamb and kofte (like a minced lamb cake) with pitta bread in a really tasty tangy tomato and yoghurt sauce; and A had a really nice moussaka.

La Tasca

So after shopping for some snow gear, we dropped in to La Tasca in Covent Garden for dinner.  We ordered up a couple of plates of tapas and their house rioja, which was very nice, kinda spicy.  The tapas weren't special - the potatoes in the tortilla were overcooked and dry; and the Montado de Lomo - grilled pork loin marinated in paprika and garlic and served on toasted bread - was nothing more than a bacon baguette.  The staff were kinda cute though !

Noodles

Had the agm with the flatmates last night, to work out what we are going to do now that I'm moving out. Ordered in some great food from Apium, a local noodle place, which is way better than wagamama. I love that about living in the city, that you can get any type of food you want delivered at any time. Good stuff. I'll miss that when I move out to the 'burbs.
